So, what's a hold down?  If you are a wood worker or do metal engraving or anything similar a hold down is for you.  Drill a hole in your workbench, put your piece of work down, drop the hold down into the hole with the tab over your work, tap with a hammer and it locks the work in place.  Tap from the bottom to remove.
